Resentment
Unspoken hurt from someone's action that doesn't fade with time but comes back with every memory.
How it shows up
- An old situation comes back just as sharply as it felt back then.
- You hold imaginary conversations where you finally say everything you think.
- Things look fine with the person on the surface, but inside you keep your distance.
- You want the other person to understand and apologise on their own — without being told.
Where it usually comes from
Resentment often arises where an important expectation was broken and saying so wasn't possible: it was frightening, awkward, or seemed pointless. Unexpressed anger doesn't vanish; it turns into a long sense of injustice. Sometimes resentment also shields you from even more vulnerable feelings — disappointment or sadness.
What it costs
The past keeps steering your mood and your relationships; energy goes into an inner argument, and closeness — with that person, or with people in general — slowly narrows.
