The postponed decision
An important decision — about work, a project, a relationship — hangs for months: you think about it constantly but never make it.
How it shows up
- The decision comes back to mind every day, but the conversation or the step gets postponed again.
- You're waiting for a sign, the perfect moment, or complete certainty.
- Other people's advice only adds doubt.
- Not deciding is slowly becoming a decision in itself.
Where it usually comes from
Every important decision is also a goodbye to the other options, and that loss is often the hardest part. As long as nothing is decided, every door seems open. Fear of getting it wrong, or of someone else's reaction, often stands nearby — especially when the decision affects people close to you.
What it costs
Life runs in waiting mode; energy goes into holding the question open, while time narrows the choice on its own. What you don't decide eventually gets decided by circumstances.
