Node 03.01 · tension pattern
Overthinking
Thoughts go in circles — the same situation replays again and again, but no decision comes of it.
How it shows up
- A conversation that ended long ago keeps going in your head.
- Falling asleep is hard: your mind runs through “what if I had…”.
- You analyse the same thing over and over, but no new conclusions appear.
- After long reflection you feel not clearer, but more anxious.
Where it usually comes from
Rumination looks like working on a problem, and that's the trap: the mind hopes one more loop will produce an answer or settle the anxiety. But repetition adds no new information — it only keeps the tension going. Often it's the mind trying to regain control over something that has already happened or isn't up to us.
What it costs
A lot of energy goes into an inner argument that goes nowhere: worse sleep, less attention to what's happening now, and tiredness with no visible cause.
