Analysis paralysis
Gathering information and comparing options takes so long that the moment for action passes.
How it shows up
- Choosing a simple thing turns into reading dozens of reviews.
- Every new fact raises new questions instead of a decision.
- The pros-and-cons table keeps growing, and clarity doesn't.
- You get tired of choosing before you actually choose.
Where it usually comes from
Analysis feels responsible and protects you from mistakes: it seems that a little more data and the right answer will become obvious. But many decisions never come with complete information, and part of the answer can only be found by acting. Most often it's fear of getting it wrong, dressed up as prudence.
What it costs
Missed opportunities, exhausting evenings of comparison, and a habit of postponing even small decisions. Sometimes the time spent choosing costs more than an imperfect option would.
